We looked at the HP Pavilion m7790y, which includes good components for multitasking including an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 processor and 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 7350LE graphics card. HP pretty much hits the mark with this system, except that it does not come with a monitor. But fortunately, HP offers some incredibly reasonable upgrades so you could easily make this system perfect.
At the time of this review, this system was priced at under $1000 as configured. If you added a 19–inch monitor, upgraded the graphics card to a 256MB and boosted the RAM to 2GBs, the price is still only around $1200 after rebates. So even though the base configuration of this system in adequate, you could easily have an above average system for an extremely competitive price.
