Fly through your video edits or fly through a Sci–fi universe in your game with the Alienware Aurora 7500. Our “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award” winner includes quality components and a faster than average 20.1–inch monitor.
Alienware has built this system for speed with a fast front bus of 2000 MHz and a processor with hyper transport technology. It also has a 512 MB NVIDIA graphics card for exceptional video and gaming performance.
However, this system falls a bit behind the new HP since the HP comes with 2 GBs of RAM standard, a touch screen monitor, a built in camera and a media card reader.
True to Alienware’s reputations for speed, this system comes with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 with Hyper Transport technology. They offer upgrades, but for most people they are not necessary since this one runs at 2.4 GHz with a wound up front bus speed of 2000 MHz. And to keep this fast system cool, Alienware includes AlienIce 3.0 Video Cooling.
The Alienware Aurora’s basic configuration comes with a GB of RAM and a 250 GB SATA hard drive. We would like to see 2 GBs included in this system standard.
If you are a gamer or a casual video editor you will love the fact that the Aurora comes with a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT graphics card and 7.1 surround sound.
If you are a game connoisseur with a few extra bucks to spend, you could opt for the SoundBlaster graphics card and enjoy a realistic, high end gaming experience.
This system comes with a fast Samsung SyncMaster 20.1 inch flat panel monitor, which is a gamer favorite; of course this monitor is also perfect for media. It also comes with an 18X dual layer burner with Nero software, a USB keyboard and optical mouse. Unlike many PCs this one includes two available FireWire ports and eight USBs.
However, this system does not come with a media card reader, if your cameras cannot connect by USB or FireWire you will need to purchase an external media card reader to download to this computer.
Alienware PCs originally started out specializing in gaming systems, so they include great components for gaming that also perform well for media. But this system does not include things like a TV tuner, remote control, speakers or a camera.
This system is pricy, but includes above average components.
Alienware can be contacted by telephone, email or chat, they also host user forums. Online you can easily find drivers and downloads or search their knowledgebase.
This system can run fast, but for increased Vista and video performance you could increase the RAM to 2GBs to bring the purchase price to $2599. As mentioned it does not come with a media card reader, but Alienware does not offer this option so you would have to purchase a USB connectable one through another retailer.
